Top 4 Evernote Alternatives to Watch out For in 2023

Evernote has long been considered the best note taking app for personal use and teams to remember anything from everyday life and act upon ideas, taking notes online, managing projects, as well as experiences across all computers, tablets and phones.
Evernote is used by companies all across the world thanks to its convenience, efficiency and popularity. However, we live in a highly digital world, so the tech market offers more and more tools that may overcome Evernote, offering more benefits.
However, the era of Evernote seems to end as it has extremely costly plans, which is not suitable for personal use or for small teams. In addition, Evernote is not suitable for managing complex projects that require features Confluence has. Overall, Evernote is an outdated option that is filled with lots of unnecessary features, causing mess and bugs, not talking about poor quality customer support.
Considering the need for the most efficient and cost-effective knowledge management systems and note-taking tools, I decided to create a list of the strongest competitors that can become an ultimate choice for organizations today. To make a list as useful as possible, I performed research and explored users' opinions. That is why I will compare tools using the following characteristics:
✦ User-Friendliness
✦ Support
✦ Freemium
✦ Storage
✦ Templates
✦ Open roadmap
Let's get to the point.
Evernote
Dokably is an Evernote alternative for small teams, solo-makers and startups ><meta itemprop=
Before moving to the best alternatives, let's first explore Evernote to help you easier compare the features and opportunities the product offers. Evernote is a note taking software designed to help create and organize digital notes while also keeping them synced across all your devices. Evernote can be used as a digital filing cabinet allowing users to organize all their notes, whether they're recipes, business plans or to-dos.

User Friendliness

According to users, Evernote has a simple and accessible interface suitable for users with different experience levels. However, its new iOS version has been reported as slow and useless, while some features are more complicated compared to alternatives that offer simple note taking solutions without those unnecessary features.

Support

Since Evernote is one of the most online notes apps, it has a strong community ready to help. However, its in-house support lacks effectiveness and proper communication. Some users even reported that tech support could ignore messages for more than a day, which is inappropriate for such a market giant.

Freemium

Evernote offers a free plan that covers all basic features users need to take notes for personal use. However, if you need premium features for businesses or more storage, you will be required to upgrade your account, which is very costly.

Storage

Basic, Plus and Premium accounts in Evernote provide different monthly upload limits. With the Basic one, which is free, you can upload a cumulative 3.6GB in total storage after 5 years. Premium account allows for 600GB.

Templates

Evernote offers a vast list of templates that can be used to categorize your notes and customize them to your own purpose. The premium plan allows users to customize their templates, while the Basic subscription allows users to download pre-made templates, but the list is short.

Open Roadmap

Evernote was trying to create a product containing as many features as it could and all in one place. While it could be convenient, this has caused a mess in the community and made it harder to use this tool. As a result, the community reported that Evernote should better offer an open roadmap so they can see where the product is going and have the ability to affect the product's development.
Tettra
Tettra refers to a company wiki tool designed for internal documentation. The app can be used by individuals and companies to take notes online free, manage project documentation, while also easing the onboarding process. Like Evernote, Tettra can be integrated with various apps and services, like Slack, to allow you to document and access vital data without ever leaving Slack. It can also be integrated with Google Drive, GitHub, and Zapier to keep everything organized. Since Tettra is a web-based product, users are able to access it from any device. Tettra offers specialized knowledge management features like the ability to assign "knowledge experts", schedule automated content verification and identify outdated content.

User Friendliness

Tettra has a simple and understandable interface. It is mostly used by companies, offering a seamless user experience. Tettra has various features that only boost the working process instead of causing a mess. In addition, Tettra offers internal documentation for any interested party. The content editor is more basic but also easier to use.

Support

Tettra is a fresh product that needs more time to evolve and develop. Although Tettra has a small community compared to Evernote, its inner support team operates all around the clock through a live chat, helping new and seasoned users resolve questions within seconds. In addition, premium accounts have access to phone calls for problem-solving.

Freemium

Tettra offers users a free plan while also providing enterprise plans for organizations that need more advanced features like permissions and reporting. This free plan can only be used by teams having up to 10 users and offer basic features for a smooth and simple start.

Storage

If you are using a free plan, you will have only 1 GB per user storage limit. However, two other plans offer unlimited storage, making it more cost-efficient and effective than Evernote.

Templates

Just like Evernote, Tettra allows users to use templates to create pages with predefined structures.

Open Roadmap

Tettra allows any interested user to check the roadmap of the product on the website. Users can recommend features and upgrades to the software through customer support and explore how the software evolves over time.
OneNote
OneNote is one of the top Evernote alternatives. It is a digital note-taking app that offers a single place for keeping all of your notes, plans, research, and other data — everything you need to remember and manage both at home and at work. OneNote allows users to easily organize, print, and share data while also keeping research information even if they forget where you originally captured it. All notes are stored online, so users can easily get to them using any device.

User Friendliness

Users report that OneNote is incredibly easy to use and understand. The interface is simple and contains convenient UI elements for better and smoother navigation. The product suits both - experienced and new users. However, One Note and One Note for Windows have different features, which may cause issues for some users.

Support

Since OneNote is a product developed by Microsoft, it has a huge community offering help. Users report that there are some issues with the product, but tech support cannot resolve them yet. In general, customer support is fast and effective, but the team isn't as helpful as users expect it.

Freemium

In contrast to Evernote, OneNote can be downloaded for free on Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows. There is also a free web app. You can use OneNote for free with almost no feature restrictions, as you get a handful of extra features, including Sticker and Math if you have a paid Microsoft account.

Storage

Free OneNote users get 5GB of space, while the product also offers a free edition for education that includes 1TB of online storage. Everyone else has 1TB of storage, though you share that space with other apps.

Templates

OneNote allows users to create a copy of the page template. Each PRO template can be customized based on your personal needs and according to requirements. In addition, OneNote offers calendar and planner templates for free with every template you use.

Open Roadmap

OneNote currently doesn't have an open roadmap.

Open Roadmap

Dokably
Dokably is a brand-new knowledge management tool every remote team needs. This software combines the features of Notion and Miro - all within one software. Being one of the most promising and new note-taking and data sharing apps on the market, this product reduces the need to have several apps since it blends docs, whiteboard collaboration, notes, tasks, wiki, databases, or anything - in one app. Dokably can be integrated with almost all popular apps for project management, while also allowing users to organize all their notes, like to-dos and business tasks in one place.

User Friendliness

Dokably is known for its user-friendliness and simple yet effective UI. It allows anyone to enjoy all the work in one place, making it incredibly easy to use. The app has a very organized, clean and elegant interface.

Support

Dokably has been designed by a small team of people who had experience with similar apps that lacked functionality and caused the mess. That is why founders always report the importance of offering top-notch support for users.

Freemium

Dokably offers two plans: Free and Unlimited. If you are going to use a free plan, you will enjoy all basic features collected from the best note-taking apps available on the market. The free plan is available for small teams up to 5 members and can be used forever.

Templates

This app allows users to use pre-made templates or customized ones. Dokably has a vast list of templates, including meeting minutes notes, brainstorming and project notes, to name a few.

Open Roadmap

Dokably, founders believe that users should impact product growth, so they offer an open roadmap of the product for any interested party. This increases transparency and boosts the app's effectiveness in the long term, according to one of the founders. In addition, users are able to leave their suggestions on product improvements since the team carefully checks and considers them when upgrading the software.
Notion
Since Notion is an obvious and most popular alternative to Evernote, we won't go through it in so many details as with other options, yet I want to mention it here. But you can learn all the main pros and cons in my recent article “19 best product management tools you must include today in your stack”. Notion is not just yet another online note-taking app, it’s an ultimate choice for different projects, allowing users to write, plan, capture thoughts, manage projects, or even run an entire company - and all in one space.
Notion is user-friendly, offering recommendations and guidelines on using the app if you are new to it. Even though the support team isn't as responsive as they claim, the vast community is always ready to help users solve their issues. Notion has a Freemium version for individual use only.
Wrapping Up
In our highly digital world, it is now more important than ever for companies and specialists to have tools that allow them to keep all data in one place, create notes, find needed documents within seconds, organize knowledge base and not waste any extra minute on manual onboarding. While Evernote was the ultimate choice for most people, its high prices and complexity forced us to search for more convenient and cost-effective alternatives. I hope here you have found your next tool for productivity and note-taking to replace a well-known Evernote.
